Blog 2 - Summer Mentorship

1. List the contact name, phone number, and organization of the person with whom you volunteered.
My mentor's name is Dr. Mayra Rosado. Her phone number is (626)-401-4147, and the organization she works at is Health Care Partners in El Monte.

2. What qualified this person as an expert in your topic choice.
The topic that I chose for my senior project is pediatrics. Dr. Mayra Rosado is a pediatrician, in fact she's been my pediatrician for the past 16 years. She earned her medical degree at Harvard Medical School, and she has been a pediatrician at Health Care Partners in El Monte for 23 years now. Therefore, I believed she would be a qualified expert.

3. List three questions for further exploration now that you've completed your summer hours.
During my time completing my summer hours, a few questions have come crossed my mind for further exploration into my topic.
        1. What happens when a patient is late for a vaccine?
        2. Which classes do I need to take to become a pediatrician?
        3. How do I determine which medication a patient must receive?

4. What is the most important thing you've gained from this experience?
The most important thing I've gained from this experience is when seeing a patient, it is important to make the patient comfortable and relaxed. By doing so, the patient begins to trust the doctor, which then allows the doctor to be able to do their job easier.

5. What is your senior project topic going to be? How did mentorship help make your decision? Please explain.
I have decided that my senior topic will be pediatrics. My mentorship over the summer helped me make my decision by my time shadowing Dr. Rosado. She's always so happy helping kids, and I wish to help people in the future, more specifically the younger generation. By helping those at an earlier age, perhaps they will be inspired to help others later on in their future.
